Lay Communication Prize 2022

The William Harvey Research Foundation (WHRF) is offering a Prize in Lay Communication to be awarded to a WHRI scientist at the William Harvey Annual Review Day 2022.

The winner and finalists will also be filmed discussing their research and involved in marketing activities on behalf of the Foundation.

Prize value:

£500 towards scientific meeting expenses and a certificate confirming the award of the Prize

£400 travel award for the runner-up

 

Who can enter? 

Any member of current WHRI research staff (e.g. PhD students, post-doctoral scientists, clinical research fellows).  Faculty staff will not be eligible.

How to enter:

Submit a description in lay language of work you are involved in at WHRI (can be recently completed work, work in progress or planned work) such that it can be understood by and enthuse somebody with no more than high school science education. 

Max length: 500 words.  Only one entry per person may be considered.

Accompany this with the completed entry form (download below) signed by yourself and your supervisor, sent to Amanda Craddock at a.craddock@qmul.ac.uk.

 

Deadline:  12 noon, Wednesday 25th May 2022

 

Additional Details:

All eligible submissions will be judged by a mainly lay panel, but including one or two senior scientists.  The highest scored entries will be invited to present a 5 minute oral “pitch” of their work and to answer a limited number of questions from the panel on a date (to be decided) in early- to mid-June.
