The aim of the series, which was originally intended to run annually for four years is now in its 17th year, was to honour the memory of Sir John Vane, FRS, the founder of the Institute.
Since that first meeting, the symposium has continued to grow in success and now establishes as a leading event in PAH (Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension) calendar. The John Vane Memorial Symposium on Prostacyclin Science and Pulmonary Vascular Disease is held each year around the time of Sir John's birthday in March.
